Kim draped her famous figure in an eye-popping corset, Katy transformed herself into a living chandelier and Gaga performed an over-the-top strip tease.

The Maison Mugler gown was perfect for showcasing the reality stars iconic curves, with the beaded detail giving the illusion that she was caught in the rain.

Katy arrived looking like an actual chandelier with three layers of light-up candles surrounding her sparkly silver Moschino dress.

And even though she was solo without her fiance Orlando Bloom, Katy was more than enough for the eager shutterbugs as she took the them of ‘camp’ to a new level.

‘Who has ever been to a ball that did not have a chandelier?!,’ shared designer Jermey Scott. ‘The idea of elegance itself is quite camp and I wanted to play with that concept, poke a lil fun at it with a loving nudge.’

Cardi B wore an all-red gown with a dramatic, over-the-top train that billowed behind her on the pink carpet.

The oxblood custom Thom Browne gown extended outward in concentric circles for about ten feet.

‘I designed this dress for Cardi specifically because she has the ultimate beauty in a woman’s body, and that is what the dress is about for me: taking advantage of that beauty,’ said Thom Browne to Vogue.

It was made from tulle and silk organza and filled with down. The hand-embroidered dress was also decorated with 30,000 feathers. It took 35 people more than 2,000 hours to create.

Lady Gaga – one of this year’s co-chairs – arrived in a humongous bright pink satin gown that boasted puffy sleeves and a matching oversized bow on her platinum locks as it was carried by a number of tuxedo-wearing men with black umbrellas.

The ensemble was designed by her former stylist Brandon Maxwell.

But the outrageous number was just the first of four different looks the Born This Way singer would reveal at the annual soiree.

After parading up and down the stairs of the Met, Gaga took the gown off to reveal a strapless black dress underneath and posed with one of the umbrellas.

And after a few turns for the eager shutterbugs, she stripped off the black number for another dazzling pink gown – this one form-fitting – as she added large retro sunglasses and a brick-size cell phone to the third look.

It is famous for attracting luminaries of Hollywood, of fashion, music, sports, TV and the stage for an evening of fashion and charity to mark the museum’s spring exhibit.

This year, the exhibit and gala are dedicated to the idea of ‘camp,’ as defined by Susan Sontag’s 1964 essay Notes on ‘Camp.’

The Met Gala, formally known as the Costume Institute Benefit, is always chaired by a team of high-wattage celebrities, and this year is no exception.

The event is chaired by pop star and actress-of-the-moment Lady Gaga, tennis star Serena Williams, and singer Harry Styles, along with Gucci designer Alessandro Michele and, as always, Vogue editor Anna Wintour.

Wintour said she believes this year’s Met Gala to be about ‘self expression’ and ‘individuality’, noting that she wanted to see ‘outrageous, fun, tongue in cheek’ fashion on the red carpet.

The new theme seems decidedly more lighthearted than last year’s hugely successful Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination, about the relationship between fashion and Catholicism.

That sumptuous, sprawling show drew more visitors than any Costume Institute exhibit — more than 1.3 million to the Met’s main Fifth Avenue location, and nearly 200,000 to its Cloisters branch — and indeed was one of the most attended shows in the museum’s history.

‘Fashion is the most overt and enduring conduit of the camp aesthetic,’ said Andrew Bolton, curator in charge of the Costume Institute and creator of its blockbuster shows. Bolton said the 2019 show would ‘advance creative and critical dialogue about the ongoing and ever-evolving impact of camp on fashion.’

The exhibit will feature approximately 175 objects, not only clothing but also sculptures, paintings, and drawings.

Designers to be featured in the show include: Cristóbal Balenciaga, Thom Browne, Gucci, Marc Jacobs, Charles James, Christian Lacroix, Karl Lagerfeld, Prada, Versace and many more.

The Camp: Notes on Fashion exhibit will run from May 9 through Sept. 8.

Anna Wintour has the final say over each person on the guest list

The annual Met Gala extravaganza raises money for the museum’s Costume Institute kicks off the Met’s annual major fashion exhibition — look out, because the theme is ‘camp.’

And the more outrageous the outfit, the better for the Met Gala red carpet, where the A-listers strut their stuff, usually in the most eye-popping ensemble they can find to match the theme.

Last year, Rihanna showed up in full papal-esque regalia, and Madonna wore a regal black gown – with a see-through cross in the bodice – to go along with the ‘Heavenly Bodies’ concept.

Want a seat? They go for $35,000 a piece.

Attendance is by invitation only, and word has it that Vogue editor extraordinaire Anna Wintour has the final say over each person on the guest list.

Organizers did reveal a smattering of names last month — members of the so-called ‘host committee’ — and so expect to see Jennifer Lopez, Bradley Cooper, Katy Perry and Priyanka Chopra.

Wintour co-chairs the event this year with an eclectic mix of boldface names — Gucci designer Alessandro Michele, pop diva Lady Gaga, British singer Harry Styles and tennis superstar Serena Williams.

Met Gala 2019 theme: So what does ‘Notes on Camp’ mean…?

Lady Gaga's dream theme! The pop star embraced 'camp' on the Met Gala red carpet

Lady Gaga’s dream theme! The pop star embraced ‘camp’ on the Met Gala red carpet

So what exactly is ‘camp’?

The museum’s exhibition is based on ‘Notes on Camp,’ an essay written in 1964 by American author Susan Sontag.

‘Camp is by nature subversive (…) confronting and challenging the status quo,’ the Costume Institute’s head curator Andrew Bolton said Monday at a press event about the exhibition before the gala.

‘In the end, the purpose of camp is to put a smile on our faces and a warm glow in our hearts.’

Some of the items in the exhibition might best explain the theme: the ‘swan dress’ worn by Bjork to the Oscars, a glittering costume worn by flamboyant US singer Liberace, a shower head necklace designed by the late Karl Lagerfeld for Chloe in the 1980s.

‘We’re experiencing a resurgence of camp — not just in fashion, but in culture in general,’ said Bolton.

‘Camp tends to come to the fore in moments of social and political instability. The 1960s was one such moment as were the 1980s.’

The exhibition ‘Camp: Notes on Fashion’ — a play on the title of Sontag’s essay — formally opens at the Met on Thursday and runs through September 8.
