Since antiquity, eroticism has been a point of intrigue for artists worldwide. From Andy Warhol, to Michelangelo, Georgia O’Keeffe, Anish Kapoor, Nobuyoshi Araki and Picasso, Phaidon is gathering the works of artists who use their works as a medium for sexuality and the erotic impulse, compiled in a beautiful retrospective tome, documenting erotica through the ages. Between subtle nudes and flamboyant sensuality, The Art of the Erotic is a call to question the body via artists’ brushstrokes and lenses. In total, 170 works document their bids to capture desire.
