When it was introduced in 1938, the latest electrified tube stock was the envy of the world. And while it may have been surpassed by superior tech since, the trains remain some of the most beautiful to have graced the network.

For two days in April, they’re coming back (well one of them, anyway), when London Transport Museum runs a series of Art Deco Specials along the Piccadilly line.

The Art Deco special makes three trips on a restored train, between Northfields and Acton Town on Saturday 25 April, and another three trips on Sunday 26 April.

You can ride on 1938 tube stock year-round on the Isle of Wight, although these vintage trains are set to be updated… with trains from the 1980s.

Tickets are £45 (adults), £35 (children), £38 (concessions). Keep an eye on the heritage vehicle events site, or sign up to LTM’s newsletter for alerts.
